"Muthappan is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and Lord Siva in the Kali Yuga, known by various names such as Thiruvappana, Vellatam, Cheriya Muthappan, Valiya Muthappan, Ambala Muthappan, and Puralimala Muthappan."
The Sree Muthappan Temple in Shoranur (Ganesh Giri, Kerala) stands as a sacred center of faith dedicated to Lord Muthappan, deeply rooted in the traditions of North Malabar Theyyam worship. Known for its divine origin and strong community foundation, this temple preserves centuries-old spiritual practices while welcoming devotees from across India and around the world.
The region, formerly known as Muthukurussi Mala, became spiritually significant after a Ganesha idol was discovered during railway construction, leading to the name Ganesh Giri, now home to the Sree Muthappan Temple in Shoranur.
Railway employees from North Malabar introduced the Sree Parassinikadavu Muthappan Theyyam here, marking the beginning of worship at the present Madappura.
Following a divine moment, a sacred spot was identified, a platform was built, and regular pooja began with Muthappan’s presence established.
A temple committee was formed to organize rituals and ensure the continuous growth of this Muthappan temple in Kerala.
Today, the temple continues to uphold sacred rituals, attracting devotees seeking blessings of Lord Muthappan in Shoranur.
